When you go to the National Parks Service website for White Sands National Park the first thing you see is “Like No Place on Earth”. Well, after you see information regarding their response to Covid-19 that is.
White Sands really is like no place I have ever been. The photos you see are real. And the place is one of the quietest I have ever been. That is if there is no activity at the nearby missile range.
The NPS White Sands website is loaded with information about the history, culture, and nature that created the beautiful shimmering white sand dunes in the Chihuahuan Desert of New Mexico covering over 275 square miles! When I visited I didn’t want to leave. Nothing in particular made me feel that way. It was just so unique that by just being present in this world wonder I felt gripped by its pristine beauty and vastness. I’ve always wanted to go back and camp. Which you can do. Once this Covid-19 thing is over. They call it primitive backcountry camping and according to their website it is a truly amazing experience among the glistening gypsum dunes under the star-studded night sky. I can only imagine!
New Mexico itself deserves a 5 Heart Rating. As a matter of fact I’ll add it to the list. If you decide to visit White Sands National Park and would like to know what else to do in New Mexico, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ve visited several times and am quite familiar with points of interest in this unique state.
