Caunes-Minervois is a small medieval town in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. If you go, make sure you plan to take a guided tour of the 8th century abbey. (As I type this, I am trying to remember the name of the young lady that guided us through this impressive historical monument. When I remember, I'll let you know because you will definitely want to request her as your guide. You'll see why.) I found the iTranslate app for iPhone a couple of years ago when struggling to communicate with my children's Japanese grandmother. And although I speak the language, I'd get frustrated when she'd think my Japanese is better than it is and use vocabulary I did not know. Weekend in San Francisco

Nearly 30 years ago, I spent a long weekend in San Francisco and have been fortunate to do it again many times since, for a variety of reasons - to visit friends, attend conferences, and to layover on my way into/out of the country (which I highly recommend).
