Caunes-Minervois is a small medieval town in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. If you go, make sure you plan to take a guided tour of the 8th century abbey. (As I type this, I am trying to remember the name of the young lady that guided us through this impressive historical monument. When I remember, I'll let you know because you will definitely want to request her as your guide. You'll see why.) Thyme in the Ranch is my favorite Southern California bakery. Just the other day, as I walked in the door and approached the counter, my first words were, "It's worth coming here just to smell the goodness!"

The only reason I would agree this restaurant warrants this representation is because the friendly, welcoming staff creates a feeling of comfort and warmth from the moment you walk in the door. La Boulangerie Villeneuve-Minervois

If I had a bumper sticker on my car, it would read: "I brake for bakeries!" Yes, I know this is in contradiction with recent trends to avoid certain foods, but having been a professional baker myself and knowing firsthand the painstaking effort that goes into the creation of a 144-layer all-butter croissant, I will always have a place in my heart for fresh baked goods.
