"Through the power of sport, Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people."
That's one of the first lines you will find at the Special Olympics' website. If I hadn't had the experience of coaching Special Olympics tennis, I would have read that statement to mean something entirely different than how I read it now.
When I was asked to coach tennis for the Special Olympics, I thought I would do them a favor since they had lost their Filed Under: 5 Heart Rating Tagged With: fitness, Special Olympics, tennis, volunteer, volunteering
PT X DT
March 6, 2013 by Jean Oshima
Not everyone wants or needs a personal trainer but if you do, a visit to Dave Trujillo's website at www.ptxdt.com is a good start. I have never been trained by Dave, but I know him personally and am so impressed by this guy. I've seen him work with clients and I've seen the results he's had. Dave is the real deal. It was obvious he was a gifted dancer, but as we all know, when someone is good at something, it does not necessarily mean they can teach. As a matter of fact, it's been my experience that it is usually the exact opposite.

Bike the Bay
February 21, 2013 by Jean Oshima
Did you know that just once a year you can ride your bike across the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge? When I heard about this ride, I just had to do it, since even driving a car across the bridge has always given me the willies. Boy was I surprised! Not only was I not scared even one tiny little bit, but the 25 mile ride was easy and the folks I met at the beer garden after the ride were a hoot! (Not sure if the fact that I was one of the first to arrive at the beer garden was due to my riding ability Read more [...]
