Go Out on a Limb AND A Leg to Stand On, both non-profits

Really I should do two separate 5 Heart Ratings for Go Out On A Limb and A Leg to Stand On, but I’m gonna see how this goes because I’d like people to know about both of these great orgs. Keep in mind that in their own right they each deserve the attention of a 5 Heart Rating.

I’ll start with Go Out On A Limb. The featured image here is a photo of my friends and me where we participated in a Yoga fund-raiser for this great organization at an art studio in Santa Monica, California. It was sponsored by a Yoga clothing company based in the Los Angeles area.

The photo you see here of a beautiful young woman getting ready to teach a Yoga class is that of Danielle (Dani) Orner whom helped organize the event. She’s also a wonderful Yoga teacher, public speaker, and published author. And all-around amazing human being you just want to be around.

Go Out on a Limb is a very unique org and I love the concept and philosophies surrounding this supportive mentorship program. The way it works is children with limb loss are paired in a mentor-like capacity with adults whom also have lost a limb. You can read more about this amazing non-profit here or watch the video at the bottom of this post:

I was introduced to the org, A Leg to Stand On, by Tim Seymour, a hedge fund manager and investment and global and emerging markets commentator for CNBC. He is very involved with this great non-profit and once a year his band plays at the 2-day music festival benefiting ALTSO in New York City. He posted about the fundraiser on Twitter so my daughter and I got tickets and went to NYC and had a blast. We even got to visit the NASDAQ market site and be on set for the live airing of CNBC’s Fast Money, for which Tim is a regular member of the cast. (See photos. That’s Tim giving an incredible performance!) The whole trip was great but attending the charity event and learning more about ALTSO was definitely a highlight. The event was extremely well-done with cocktails and delicious food flowing all night long. Another highlight was being welcomed by Guy Adami, also of CNBC, one of the nicest guys I have ever met and a perfect gentleman!

Here’s what ALTSO’s website says about who they are:

“We’re an NYC-based non-profit organization working in the developing world, bringing free orthopedic care to children with untreated limb disabilities whose families cannot afford treatment. Our goal is to provide high-quality continuous care until the age of 21 for all patients treated under ALTSO’s program. Since 2003, through local treatment providers in Asia, Africa and Latin America we’ve provided free orthopedic care to more than 16,700 children in need.”

You can visit their website to learn more here. I highly recommend going to the annual music fest. For more info regarding the event click on “view events”:
