Nordstrom

Some years back, while coaching ladies high school tennis, I needed to get team uniforms for both the varsity and junior varsity players. I had already had some experience ordering uniforms for my own adult ladies’ tennis team and knew it could be quite the challenge. I’d worked many years previously in fashion merchandising with the Walt Disney World organization and was pretty good at determining sizes but knew from experience that my idea of the perfect fit could be quite different than that of a teenage girl. With this daunting task I went right to the one place I knew I could count on to make my experience as seamless as possible – Nordstrom.

Nordstrom’s returns and exchanges policy is as good as it gets and I thought that fact alone was enough to choose my longtime favorite fashion retailer to help me out.   A couple of phone calls and one trip to the store later, 48 happy young ladies had their uniforms in time for the first match of the season. The young lady who handled the order start to finish, was amazing. I later made it a point to let her manager know and after sending a lengthy email detailing the service I’d received, the manager called me to say the young saleswoman would be receiving a promotion and that she would be honored with a special commendation the following week. I was not surprised. What a class act this company is!

Additionally, still to many people’s surprise, they will meet or beat any price. That’s right – any price! They have a money-back-guarantee, no-questions-asked policy. Period. The quality of service is unmatched. And if you buy something at Nordstrom, you can count on the quality and know your purchase is the best of the best. Their buyers and personal shoppers are the best in the biz. You simply can’t go wrong with Nordstrom.

Which reminds me of another Nordstrom experience. Years back, I purchased some nice sunglasses at Nordstrom (I will only buy sunglasses at Nordstrom) and, unfortunately, absentmindedly placed them on the floor at my gym while I watched my friends lift weights (Yes, I just watched. This girl’s not much into weightlifting). And yes, you guessed it – someone stepped on them and of course, they broke.

So I took my broken glasses to Nordstrom to get them replaced with the exact same pair.  The only reason I even brought the broken glasses with me was because I wanted to replace them with the EXACT same pair. When I tried to pay, the saleswoman absolutely refused to let me pay! I actually got into a bit of a discussion with her as I insisted on paying since it was my fault they were broken. She remained courteous but firm.

This reminded me of the good old days in retail at Walt Disney World where policy was based on “the guest is always right”. No matter what. I’d always been proud to work for a company that emphasized the importance of customer service. It seems most companies don’t realize customer service is not tested until there is a problem and for me, Nordstrom has proven time and time again that they know what real service is all about – the customer is always right.

[…] These capris are by far the best Yoga pants I have ever found.  They are a perfect fit.  The fabric is so comfortable.  They don’t ride up on the legs – you ladies know what I’m talking about.  The waistband is so comfy!  And on top of all that, they are sold at Nordstrom which also earns the 5 Heart distinction for a long list of reasons detailed in a separate post.
